Echo Davies isn’t trying to save the world – she’s just trying to make Starlight City a little less terrible. After an impossible escape from a previous life, Echo devotes herself to dismantling the slave trade that plagues the city. Somewhere between bringing lost children home and shedding light on the inadequacy of the police force, she meets someone she can’t ignore for a reason she is too afraid to address. But something far more dangerous than unexplored feelings lie beneath the city, and to protect what she loves, Echo must choose between who she was and who she has the potential to be.

Reed Valentine never believed in fate, or angels, or greater duty. Even after years of preaching to the contrary from her lifelong (and virtually only) friend, Orion Grey, Reed has staunchly refused to accept that anything greater than humanity could exist, or that her presence on Earth could ever hold any real importance. Then Reed's mother dies, and she meets two people that force her to reassess everything she thinks she knows.
